Do I need to speak and/or read Arabic?
Not really. The main language of commerce is English. English is also spoken commonly and fluently outside of work settings in all retail stores and services.

Is it safe?
Yes, very safe. Crime rate is low and the occurrence of violent crimes is vertually non-existent.

Do I have to wear a headscarf?
No. Women are not forced to wear headscarves and can dress as they please. The dress codes vary from traditional clothes to contemporary fashions.

Is it conservative?
The Bahraini mindset is open and tolerant. Bahrain has the most socially liberal society in the GCC. Expatriates mix with Bahraini nationals across all social settings. Bahraini men and women socialize and congregate at local cafes and restaurants.

Should I be aware of any food and beverage restrictions?
Although Muslim Bahrainis generally observe the tradition of excluding pork and alcohol consumption, supermarkets sell pork products while alcohol can be purchased from special licensed stores, hotels and restaurants.

Just how hot does it get?
The average temperature during peak summer days is 42 degrees Celsius, however the most outdoor locations are shaded and all buildings are climate controlled. The temperature becomes milder starting from October until May.
