Bahrain ICT sector contribute $372 million to the economy
Bahrain ICT companies total turnover in 2012 exceeds $1 billion
Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB), will bring a delegation of leading Bahraini technology companies to this year’s GITEX Technology Week, comprising a key part of the Bahrain Pavilion.

Alongside Bahrain EDB and Bahrain’s eGovernment Authority, Tamkeen which is responsible for enterprise
development and skills enhancement, will also be present in the Bahrain pavilion alongside a number of SMEs, seeking to raise awareness and gain access to the many industry leaders who will be present at the event.
Bahrain’s progress in the ICT industry is demonstrated by the 2012 UN eGovernment Readiness Survey placing the Kingdom 2nd in the MENA region. The Survey placed Bahrain 36th of 192 countries worldwide in its application of ICT to provide access and inclusion for its citizens. In the Survey, Bahrain outperformed the world average across eReadiness, Web Measure, Infrastructure, Human Capital and e-Participation.

Recent reports indicated that ICT sector spending in the Middle East will reach $192 billion,  while ICT sector in the Kingdom is expected to contribute around $372 million in 2013 due to the growing ICT businesses, in 2012 the total turnover of the ICT sector was over $1 billion and it employs over 3000 Bahrainis . 

Minister of Transportation and Acting Chief Executive of Bahrain EDB, Kamal bin Ahmed, said:

“We aim to be on the map of this $3 trillion industry as the ICT market in Bahrain is expected to grow, and is being driven by the high demand for IT products and services from both the public and private sectors. The growing need for robust IT solutions is also being driven by sizeable eGovernment and eCommerce initiatives, which are aimed at achieving economic diversification.”
Running under the theme of “Lets Create, Disrupt and Re-imagine Together”, this edition of GITEX Technology Week is the 33rd edition  of the event and runs from October 20-24.
