Bahrain the Jewel in the Middle Eastern Crown - 2014 HSBC Expat Explorer Survey

​ The 2014 HSBC Expat Explorer survey is a global expat survey commissioned by the  HSBC Expat and conducted by YouGov. The survey focuses on the experiences of expats in their new country of residence, with expats from all over the world describing the opportunities and challenges they face living away from home. The survey covers four areas:
 
- Expat Economics covers expat earning levels, saving and investing patterns, and the impact of the current global financial climate.
- Expat Experience covers an expat’s lifestyle, especially the level of ease or difficulty in which expats can set up in their new country, how well they integrate into the local community, and their overall quality of life.
- Raising Children Abroad reveals the best place for expat families to bring up children abroad ( childcare, education, healthcare, experience).
- Expat Expenses unveils the most cost-effective countries for expats to live based on everyday expenses and disposable income.
 
According to the report - Switzerland tops the overall ranking, Singapore, China, Germany and Bahrain complete the top five expat destinations.

Bahrain occupies the 5th position out of 34 countries in the overall rank. In expat economics, Bahrain ranks in the 11th place. As for expat experience, the Kingdom ranks 2nd due to easy commute to work (1st), existence of work/life balance (1st), feeling welcome at work (2nd), and ability to make friends easily (2nd). Finally, the Kingdom occupies the 9th position in terms of raising children abroad due to the quality of childcare (3rd) and access to better education (4th).

The kingdom  ranks 2nd out of 34 countries in the Expat Experience area, scoring particularly well for quality of life and performing better than its Middle Eastern counterparts, Oman (19th), United Arab Emirates (21st), Qatar (28th), Saudi Arabia (32nd), Kuwait (33rd) and Egypt (34th).
 
According to the report “Expats in the Middle East looking for a better work / life balance should enjoy what Bahrain has to offer.”
 
- Compared to the regional and global average of 28%, expats in Bahrain are most likely to say they have a more active social life since moving (38%).Compared to the regional and global average of 28%, expats in Bahrain are most likely to say they have a more active social life since moving (38%)
- 47% say they experience a better working culture and environment compared with the regional average of 43% and the global average of 39%,
- More than six in ten expats in Bahrain (62%) say they have a better work / life balance than in their home country (compared with the Middle East average of 44% and the global average of 40%)
- Over half of expats in Bahrain agree that they have better accommodation (55%) and a better commute to work (68%) since relocation
- the highest out of all Middle Eastern countries where regional averages are 40% and 54% respectively and higher than the global averages of 40% and 45% respectively.
