Earning her stripes - First female captain for Gulf Air

Gulf Air, Bahrain’s national commercial carrier, has appointed its first female captain.
Yasmeen Fraidoon gained her fourth stripe and captain ranking in March 2014, and completed her first commercial flight during April.
Captain Fraidoon’s progress at Gulf Air has been rapid: she joined the airline as a second officer in 2008, after having graduated from Qatar Aeronautical College.
"Being a Captain for Bahrain’s national carrier is a dream come true,” said Captain Fraidoon. “And the fact that I’m the first Bahraini woman to do so is an even greater honour.”
Gulf Air hopes that Captain Fraidoon’s achievement will inspire yet more Bahraini women to ‘reach for the skies’. It is an entirely realistic ambition, as Bahrain has a wealth of senior female business talent. Indeed, the Kingdom’s workforce is well-known for being the most highly skilled in the region; at the national carrier, Bahrainis make up 65% of the staff.
