Do I need to speak and/or read Arabic?
Not really. The main language of commerce is English. English is also spoken commonly and fluently outside of work settings in all retail stores and services.
Is it safe?
Yes, very safe. Crime rate is low and the occurrence of violent crimes is negligible.
Do I have to wear a headscarf?
No. Women are not forced to wear headscarves and can dress as they please. The dress codes vary from traditional clothes to contemporary fashions, but most women dress modestly.
Should I be aware of any food and beverage restrictions?
Not really. Though the majority of local population doesn’t eat pork, it is generally sold in major supermarkets. Bahrain is not a dry country, and alcoholic beverages are sold at special licensed retail stores.
Just how hot does it get?
The average temperature during peak summer days is 42 degrees Celsius, however the most outdoor locations are shaded and all buildings are climate controlled. The temperature becomes milder starting from October until May.
