Join Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre’s Al Sabagh Making Workshop and discover the beauty of this unique traditional Bahraini craft.
Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre is organizing a very special Al Sabagh Making workshop that takes participants on a journey through the rich and authentic Bahraini culture. Al Sabagh, made from palm tree fronds, was once one of the essential household utensils widely used in local households. Its making was regarded as one of the most prominent traditional crafts of the time, practiced in villages across Bahrain such as Karbabad, Al Jasra, and Budaiya.
The 3-session workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of this craft, teaching them the intricate processes of twisting, twining, wickerwork, and coiling palm fronds to create functional utensils. Palm fronds were also used in creating household items such as dining mats, small plates, and handheld fans.
This immersive experience offers participants a wonderful opportunity to connect with the rich Bahraini heritage.
