Hend Gallery

Established in 2009 by artist Ali Al-Mahmeed, Hend Gallery grew out of Muharraq’s longstanding cultural environment. The city’s connection to the sea and its history of poetry, literature, and visual arts continue to inform the gallery’s approach, steering its direction and anchoring it in a community that values openness and artistic engagement.

The gallery’s first joint exhibition, featuring sculptures and paintings, was held under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, the former Minister of Culture. This event marked an early step in Hend Gallery’s efforts to provide a reliable venue for artistic presentation. Since then, it has organised a range of solo and group exhibitions, offering opportunities for both emerging and established artists.

Hend Gallery also hosts an art forum that brings together participants from within Bahrain and beyond. Through these programmes, the gallery supports ongoing conversations in the visual arts and encourages the sharing of different perspectives and practices.

Over the years, the gallery has held more than twenty-five exhibitions alongside workshops, courses, and seminars. Its work emphasises thoughtful curation and gives particular attention to Bahraini artists, reflecting its commitment to the local art scene and to strengthening artistic appreciation within the community. Making its space available to international artists for exhibitions and events, it contributes to broader cultural exchange while maintaining its local focus.
