A symbol of Bahrain’s role in fostering religious diversity

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia is one of Bahrain’s most significant modern religious landmarks and the largest catholic church in the Arabian Peninsula. It is an elegant sanctuary dedicated to peace, devotion, and coexistence. Located in Awali, the cathedral stands as the spiritual home of the Catholic community across the kingdom and the wider region. It was inaugurated on 9 December 2021 by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, reflecting Bahrain’s enduring commitment to interfaith harmony. Built on land generously donated by His Majesty the King, the cathedral symbolizes the nation’s deep respect for religious diversity and its welcoming spirit.

What to Expect

Visitors entering the cathedral are welcomed by a serene circular nave, filled with soft natural light and a design that encourages contemplation. The space features dedicated chapels, including the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament and the Chapel of Our Lady of Arabia, each offering peaceful corners for reflection. Whether attending Mass, learning about the Christian heritage of the region, or simply appreciating the architectural beauty, visitors are invited to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and reflect within this inspiring space.

In November 2022, Pope Francis made a historic visit to the Cathedral and expressed his gratitude to the people of Bahrain for their care for the country's Catholic community.
